Here’s my data point on steel. Aus8 > 420HC. The aus8 in my CS SRK outperforms the 420hc in my Buck119 special. That said, I have used and abused the 119 special batoning and cutting kindling for the wood stove and it performs admirably.

Guess what, nutn, I wasn’t missing a thing in your new “raw” type of video. Its all your authority, wisdom and your free talking that makes your reviews so unique. Keep rollin, dude. And those Vantages are cool. Just kinda sad I allways pay twice as much ober here.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered a small Select; I’ll add another comment when it arrives about the quality control.

Nice update to the intro music. Great review as always. Anyone respond to KauxKaux’s question?

Nutn could you please show the knives you review in all angles? I would very much like to see the back of the handle to see thickness. Also underneath the knife.
Just ordered a Buck Vantage thanks to your review :)

So Guys, how is the “blade not centered” thing going for those of you who purchased the knife?

  10. ohioleadslinger 26 November 2009 at 1:03 pm #

I got a nit to pick You never never comment on ambidextrous qualities or lack there of on much of anything. Come on Nut. It is a big thing to us left handers. Looks like this pocket clip is and near as I can tell its the only one to date that you have reviewed.

Ok here’s the deal about talking points and knives. I talked to Nutn last night about this and he says he does talking points on guns and multitools, not knives. Not that he doesn’t want to, but organizing talking points slows him down and he’s got a gajillion knives he wants to review so he’s going “raw” so to speak…just to get the info out there. Hope that helps by way of explanation — Veri (Nutn’s sister)

Bush, I agree that it’s a bit unstructured, but it’s so classic Nutnfancy… I like the raw and uncut, the structure is always a plus though :)

Just a word of warning, some companies ( such as CRKT) will consider the griptape mod cause to void warranty if you send in a modified blade. That said, from my experience Buck has awesome customer service and I’ve had nothing but positive response with them.

For the bad alignment when closed… It’s because Buck did not mill out a detent hole for when the blade is closed like most knife makers do.

I agree with you on the tip up carry. I have yet to figure out why someone would prefer tip down. Seems so un-natural and slow to deploy. For me its a deal breaker on knives that I would otherwise purchase such as the Benchmade you showed.

I will do it; I love them myself. Enjoy Scotland though, I know its just gorgeous! — Veri (Nutn’s sister)

Thanks Veri. You can also let him know I’m enjoying “High Skies” with bugget and allie – it’s refreshing to see the Rockies now that I’ve been away from the states for a while (studying in Scotland)

bush – I’ll make sure he hears your input about the talking points — Veri (Nutn’s sister)

This is a cool knife, but I miss the talking points! The review was kind of all over. You were able to cover the main topics as usual, and I still enjoyed the vid, but I need structure :) . I’m not bothered by the ‘lack of production’ though – a table-top review with just knives and nutnfancy’s hands is enough for me

Thanks for another great review! I hope you use your talking points list in future vids (so the information is in a similar order to other vids).

I picked up my vantage avid 3 days ago and man i love it. the steel is great at holding an edge.

I got my 345 Select a couple of days ago. Yes, it’s a liner lock, so by design it’s prone to the blade being off center due to the sideways pressure applied to the blade by the lock when closed. Mine is a little off., but not rubbing. Also, my lock rides in the center of the tang, not all the way to the right as I’ve seen on earlier models of the Vantage. I’m a big KaBar Dozier fan, but this is, by far, the best $20 blade I’ve ever owned!

Nice knives, but my love is Fallkniven.

  23. skil1977 26 November 2009 at 10:23 pm #

    Hey nutn
some knife shops or knife repair guys can put spacers or some new bushings in the knife which fixed my problem.
    Awsome review :D
I love the knife it’s really good!!

  24. irhombus 26 November 2009 at 10:37 pm #

I have to admit to having a bit of a stuck up attitude toward Buck knives because of the blade steel to cost ratio. Recently, though, I’ve found a couple of Buck knives at what I think are appropriate prices for the quality. I picked up a Parallex, the smaller model, for ten bucks. Nice EDC, buries completely in pocket. Perhaps a little small in the hand, but otherwise has a good solid feel to it.
